Frequently asked questions

Practical answers about cost, duration, file size and recovery.

Updated 2 min read

Before an important recording, test picture, sound and the saved file. Keep the page open until saving finishes.

OKYA Record is a free browser-native recorder with no account requirement. Availability of its recording features depends on the browser APIs, not on a paid plan. Unsupported environments are blocked rather than given an unbounded-memory fallback.

How to use it

  1. Can I guarantee 24 hours? No. Extended recording is an architectural target; power, browser scheduling, disk and OS restrictions still matter.
  2. Why are there several files? Each segment is finalized separately. This limits exposure to a failed active file but adds short transition gaps.
  3. Can I recover after closing? You can inspect committed files and local metadata, but you must authorize a new capture. Uncommitted bytes may be unrecoverable.

Limits and safety

At 4 Mbps video plus 128 kbps audio, one hour is roughly 1.86 GB before variable-rate effects and overhead. Stop & save is required to commit the last segment. If sound is missing, inspect actual tracks and test a supported source rather than assuming all system audio is available.

A practical test

Choose the guide that matches the symptom rather than assuming every issue is a format problem. Missing sound belongs to source selection; a missing last file may be an unfinished save; an earlier playable segment says nothing about the active one. For an important session, keep a tested fallback recorder available. Free access does not remove browser, disk or operating-system limits.
