Capture & audio

Getting started

Make a short test recording before an extended session.

Updated 2 min read

Before an important recording, test picture, sound and the saved file. Keep the page open until saving finishes.

OKYA Record uses your browser’s capture and encoding APIs. This recorder requires HTTPS (or localhost), MediaRecorder and permission to write to a chosen folder. Use a recent compatible desktop Chromium browser. No account or media upload is involved.

How to use it

  1. Choose Screen + audio for a narrated screen recording, Screen only for silent video, or Audio only.
  2. Choose a local folder with enough free space. Each session creates its own subfolder.
  3. Press Start recording. Approve the screen source and, when enabled, the microphone. For shared sound, select an eligible source and enable its audio in the browser picker.
  4. Record for one minute, pause and resume, then Stop & save. Open the committed file and verify both picture and sound.

Limits and safety

Keep this tab open. Stopping the browser’s sharing indicator also ends recording. Do not refresh before finalization finishes. A successfully written byte count is not the same as a committed file; commitment happens when the writable stream closes.

A practical test

For a narrated tutorial, prepare a harmless example window rather than your whole desktop. Speak a sentence, move the pointer and pause briefly. Save the test, then play it outside the recorder. Seeing the preview alone does not prove that the microphone or shared sound reached the saved file. Start the real session only after that file meets your needs.
